It’s almost New Years and that means most of us are starting to think about setting goals for 2012.
I have set goals in my life a bunch of times… passing AP Calculus, getting a date to prom, getting into college, playing the violin in the Utah Youth Symphony, getting married in the LDS Temple, and a bunch of others. Each time I set a goal and I achieve it I [re] realize how fun and important setting goals really is! I have also set several goal involving this blog and business. Some of those goals have been completed, others are still just ideas in my head, and a few haven’t turned out like I had hoped. But that is okay! That’s the best part about goals! If you don’t complete it in time, or need alter your goal you can!!
Here are some of my thoughts on goals….
After you set a goal you need to follow through and make sure you have things in place to help you actually achieve the goal….
1st – Decide what you want and set a goal. Maybe you want to have a 1,000 followers on your blog. Maybe you want to have 50 sales in your Etsy shop. Maybe you want to increase you blog traffic by a specific percentage. Make it a goal that you can gauge. Don’t just say “I want to have a really cool blog.” That is too general. You need to be able evaluate and see your progress
✔
2nd – Set up an end date for your goal. You need a finish line to work towards! If you get to the finish line and you haven’t quiet achieved your goal you can extend your goal and keep trying, but set a finish date for yourself!
✔
3rd – Set up “check points” If your goal finish date is in 3 months make a specific time each month when you will evaluate your progress. Check and see how your doing.
✔
4th – Make sure you tell people about your goal. Ask for help and/or motivation! My husband is my cheerleader and idea bouncer! Make sure you get your friends and/or family involved in your goals!
✔
5th – Make sure during your whole goal process you are writing everything down! Better yet, pin your goal sheet on your fridge where you can see it everyday!! To help out with the step I have made a FREE printable GOAL TRACKER!

I have to set goals for myself at the beginning of the year, even if they are the same ones as last year! I know people think it’s silly because I obviously didn’t stick to them last year, but I’ve got to at least try, right?? :-)

I love this printout! We home school our children and I realized that we’ve never talked to our oldest (10 years old) about setting and obtaining goals so I was pleased to find this cute page. The only thing I would have loved more was if it had a place to write down why you want to obtain this goal. Lets face it if you’re wanting to complete a 5k run there are going to be some mornings that you need to focus on the reasons you have that goal in order to get out of bed early to go run. But no big deal, we just wrote our reasons on the back :)
